Spanish Beatbox Scene

Hola, lectores.

Hoy os traigo un artículo en inglés acerca de la escena española de beatbox que redacté para Beatboxing.com hace unos días. Puedes leer el original aquí. Pronto (espero) la versión en español. Gracias a TheKernal por sus pequeñas correcciones.

Spanish Beatbox Scene

When you speak about human beatboxing never do you think about Spain. You always get the image of Rahzel from the US, Kila Kela from the Uk or Saian Supah Crew from France, but never think about this forgotten country in the southwest of Europe.

There is a great scene in all Europe, but the Spanish movement is twenty or thirty years behind. On the other hand, the Hip-Hop scene is getting bigger and bigger. There are a lot of well known b-boy groups, graffiti crews, MCs, producers... But there are a few rhythm rebels, vocal beats creators and multi-vocalists that keep the beatbox art alive.

We all now old-school names such us Leur (Barcelona) o Dino (Alicante), whom still rocking, and our worldwide known Beatboxer: Beatmaster G (Ibiza), seen in the Human Beatbox Con and many other places, but there are more names to keep in mind.

I know that in the past years, Looder (Salamanca) and Leur offered many beatbox shows and jams, such as other Spanish beatboxers, but I have to say that in the last two years there had been many decisive events in the history of Spanish Beatboxing that we will never forget. We could see Looder, Mufasah (Bilbao), MarkoOz (Barcelona) and Dino battle in the first known beatbox competition in Spain on the European Breakdance Championship (BreakOnStage 2005), in which Markooz won and was proclaimed beatbox champion of Spain.

A year later took place the first beatbox battle of the year during BOTY2006 in Badalona, organized by Markooz. In the event we could meet Xikano (Alicante), winner and beatbox champion of the year, a great name in the scene, and young and powerful beatboxer Litos (Mallorca) who ended finalist. In this time we had the chance to meet new guys and meet old friends, such us Drum (Barcelona), Looder, Mufasah and others that battled under the wise look of the judges: Eklips (France), MarkoOz and Beatmaster G.

In December 2006 the first Spanish beatbox community was born, www.sonorosapiens.com, created by Drum, MarkoOz and Dagus-Wan (Badajoz) offering a point of meeting for Spanish beatboxers, now known as 'sonoros'. Sonorosapiens is planning to do a national contest in collaboration with Beatbox Battle Network and Beelow in the near future, but there is a lot of work to do for our beatbox scene. There is a lot of unknown people, independent beatboxers or just the ones who had never known about the website and walk alone in the world of wet beats. So we will grow slowly and maybe we can be one of the most recognized countries in beatboxing. Stay tuned!
